BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ryan Benitez, who moved to Utah in 2018, used his dog Marley’s habit of chewing up a Frisbee to spark the creation of the SquWhirl fetch toy, which has sold over 100,000 units. He partnered with Allstar Innovations to distribute the toy while still working at a roofing company—showing local inventors how small ideas can grow into popular products.  Deseret News

CRIME NEWS

  • Provo Police arrested 24-year-old Ralph Laurent on Saturday after witnesses reported he was naked in a restaurant and Bicentennial Park—he now faces charges of disorderly conduct and lewdness in the presence of a child with bail set at $5,000.  FOX 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • High school junior David 'Van' Hafner helped pay off Butler Elementary's lunch debt of over $6,000 by combining his savings with funds from the Utah Lunch Debt Relief Foundation; the check was presented on March 21+ he will work with the nonprofit to raise funds to clear debts at three more schools by the end of summer.  Deseret News

SPORTS NEWS

  • BYU basketball star Richie Saunders, who has one season of college eligibility left, said he will decide his future in the coming weeks after his team’s tournament run ended last week. He plans to gather advice from his coaches and family—helping him choose between staying with BYU or turning professional—after the season ends.  Deseret News
  • Kanon Catchings, a former four‐star recruit who played one season at BYU and averaged 7.2 points per game, entered the transfer portal on March 30th—coaches cannot reach him due to a 'do not contact' status that hints at a preferred destination.  Deseret News
  • Researchers built an all-time MLB team of Utah high school and college players using data from Baseball Reference and Baseball Almanac—this team includes a Hall of Famer and several All-Stars with strong pitching but weak hitting. An AI report said the team would compete in the middle of the pack if it played against modern teams.  Deseret News
