ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A chemical explosion in American Fork on March 19th caused two individuals to be taken to a burn unit after multiple fire crews responded and neutralized the hazardous chemicals—preventing further injuries.  KUTV

CRIME NEWS

  • Highland police arrested 47 year old nurse Meggan Randall Sundwall after she allegedly killed 38 year old patient Kacee Lyn Terry with an insulin overdose to collect a rumored $1.5 million life insurance payout and now she faces charges of aggravated murder and obstruction of justice (the investigation began in August 2024 when officers responded to a call on W. Stevens Lane).  FOX 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • A team of Utahns has been restoring a WWII A-26 Invader nicknamed High Maintenance at Provo Airport for 14 years and will have it flying at airshows this summer for its 80th anniversary— they rebuilt the plane's key systems and will start painting soon using donated supplies from a local company.  FOX 13

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The IRS announced that more than 1.1 million people nationwide have unclaimed 2021 tax refunds and about 8,700 in Utah could receive around $7.5 million with a median refund of $696. Taxpayers must file their federal return by April 15 to claim their money before it becomes property of the U.S. Treasury.  Standard-Examiner

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Utah Supreme Court upheld the dismissal of a 2022 environmental lawsuit by seven young Utahns—ages 9 to 18—who said the state's fossil fuel policies harmed their health, and the ruling allows them to file the case again. State leaders, including Gov. Spencer Cox, praised the decision as a strong move for Utah's energy future.  Deseret News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, the Society of Professional Journalists gave Utah lawmakers a Black Hole Award for passing bills that now make it costlier and harder for people to access government records. The law replaces the State Records Committee with an administrative law judge—an act Gov. Spencer Cox defended as balancing government needs and public interest.  Deseret News

  • BYU beat No. 11 seed VCU 80-71 in Denver on Thursday and advanced to a second-round game with Wisconsin today. The Cougars outscored VCU by scoring 38 points in the paint and grabbing 40 rebounds — marking their first tournament win in 12 years.  Deseret News
