ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ An avalanche closed the road in Little Cottonwood Canyon on March 18 at 5:30 p.m.— officials advised anyone on the road to move to parking areas while Snowbird asked guests to shelter in the nearest building. FOX 13
- ➤ Former BYU basketball coach Roger Reid was hurt in a golf cart accident on March 10th at Nephi’s Canyon Hills Golf Course and suffered many injuries as he underwent a five-hour surgery (more procedures are planned) while he will remain in the hospital for at least two weeks (doctors say he is in serious condition). CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Over $5.4 million in incentives has been approved for five new productions in Utah; a new HBO film starring Steve Carell began filming this month in Park City and the sixth season of The Chosen will be shot in Utah County later this year. These projects are expected to support over 350 local jobs and bring a $24.2 million economic impact (additional holiday films were also incentivized). Deseret News

- ➤ Gov. Cox signed HB441 into law on Monday to let local Nothing Bundt Cakes stores stay closed on Sundays so owners can worship without fear of legal action—franchisors cannot force them to open if it was not in the original deal and may face fines if they break the rule. Deseret News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Utah health officials report that while the U.S. recorded 301 measles cases—along with two deaths in 15 states—no official cases have been seen in Utah this year; the state has also increased MMR vaccines by 19% over the last two weeks to counter outbreaks in nearby areas. Standard-Examiner
- ➤ Utah launched a program that uses a checkbox on death certificates to identify families with minor children and connect them to help such as grief counseling and financial support—211 navigators now reach out to these families after the order was signed by Governor Spencer Cox. This model is expected to guide similar efforts in other areas as children and caregivers continue to receive vital support. Deseret News

- ➤ Jonah Bradshaw— a 19-year-old UVU graphics design student from Saratoga Springs who draws with his mouth due to arthrogryposis multiplex congenita—designed a goggle cover for every attendee at the adaptive ski event on March 22 at Snowbird. Wasatch Adaptive Sports— which helps athletes with adaptive skiing—chose his design as a special gift for the event. Deseret News
- ➤ BYU Cougars, the No.6 seed, will face No.11 seed VCU in their NCAA Tournament first round on Thursday, March 20th at 2:05 p.m. MDT at Ball Arena in Denver. Coach Kevin Young said guard play and ball control must improve after a loss to Houston in the Big 12 semifinals — his team is also managing minor injuries that could affect its rotation.
