ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A woman was hit by a passing car while checking on another crash on I-15 near Spanish Fork Saturday morning and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries—Utah Highway Patrol said weather may have contributed while everyone remained at the scene and cooperated with police.  FOX 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Wednesday night, Celebrity Jeopardy featured a $1,500 clue on BYU’s honor code that tells students not to drink coffee — Fortune Feimster answered correctly to boost her score. Mina Kimes led the game and will return in the semifinals — she finished ahead of her competitors.  Deseret News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A poll conducted Feb 18th to 25th showed that many Utahns feel secure about their own finances and local economy—41% said their money is steady while fewer see a decline—yet they are less sure about the national economy. University economist Phil Dean said the state stays strong even as trade issues and a potential recession have people worried.  Deseret News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On March 13th, Gov. Spencer Cox said better civics education can help reduce political fighting during an interview with former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice at the Civic Learning Week National Forum at Stanford University's Hoover Institution. He said state leaders should keep politics out of classrooms and add more debates to help students learn new ideas (a key idea from his Disagree Better campaign).  Deseret News
  • Public employees have started collecting signatures on the Protect Utah Workers referendum campaign after House Bill 267 was signed to limit collective bargaining rights. The coalition, made up of teachers, school employees, health workers & firefighters, has 30 days to gather about 200,000 signatures for a 2026 ballot vote.  FOX 13

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 2025 Standard-Examiner All-Area Girls Basketball Second Team has been named, with Lizzie Randall from St. Joseph averaging 9.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.7 steals, and with other players from Roy, Weber, Syracuse, Bear River and Fremont earning top season stats — officials said these averages secured each player’s spot on the team.  Standard-Examiner
  • BYU fell to No. 2 Houston 74-54 in the Big 12 tournament semifinal on Friday night in Kansas City — Houston jumped ahead with a 15-0 run that left BYU without points early in the game. The Cougars struggled with cold shooting and were knocked out of title contention.  Deseret News
