COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Feb. 24, Utah Jazz players and their owners visited the new Intermountain Health Primary Children’s Hospital Miller Family Campus in Lehi to lead crafts, games, plus creative activities for young patients.  Deseret News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Utah bill moving through the Legislature will allow the state board to adjust suicide prevention funds for schools, raising concerns among Springville High students that even small reductions could limit resources for their Hope Squad program — a peer support initiative.  FOX 13

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Spencer Cox returned from Washington D.C. this week with a promise of up to $1 billion in federal funds for Great Salt Lake restoration, and lawmakers will soon draft proposals to boost water conservation. Advocates support ideas like desalination & water sharing to improve the lake’s future.  Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Utah lawmakers advanced three bills aimed at improving animal welfare. HB87 (Biscuit’s bill) passed a Senate reading to let abused animals move to foster care, while SB201 and HB553 will move forward to reduce euthanasia and adjust dog attack claims procedures.  Deseret News
  • Provo officials planned a traffic light at Timpview and Quail Valley to ease crashes near Timpview High School + Edgemont Elementary, but neighbors rejected the idea. The city will review other options and update the community by Apr. 1.  KUTV
  • Lindon City has released a traffic circulation plan to manage heavy traffic for the Lindon Temple open house from March 12 to April 11 (9 a.m. to 8 p.m., excluding April 4). The plan details specific turn instructions for northern and southern arrivals and marks no-parking zones around the temple.  Daily Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • A Utah judge ordered the Western Athletic Conference to let UVU sports teams play in postseason tournaments & restore their media broadcasts after the school was barred for not paying an exit fee. The decision affects eight tournaments starting Feb. 27 and aims to prevent harm to the Orem-based school.  Deseret News
  • Utah Mammoth forward Clayton Keller returned home on Feb. 22 with Olympic gold from Italy — Team USA’s first win in 46 years — and he will rejoin his team for a home game against the Colorado Avalanche as they aim for the Wild Card playoff spot.  KUTV
  • BYU fell 97-84 to UCF Tuesday night at the Marriott Center in a game where the Cougars trailed by as many as 36, ending their winning home streak and dimming hopes for March. Coach Kevin Young said low effort and poor defense led to the loss.  Deseret News
