  • Weather permitting, Utah observers can view a total lunar eclipse on March 3 when the moon turns coppery red as it fully enters Earth’s umbra at 4:04 a.m. MST and remains in totality until 5:03 a.m. MST (binoculars may enhance the view).  Deseret News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Wednesday, 17 human-caused avalanches occurred across Utah, mostly near Salt Lake, after heavy snowfall, with no injuries reported. The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office advised backcountry visitors to check conditions and carry avalanche gear + stay safe.  FOX 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • Patti Wheeler, whose son Wyatt died after using Kratom, urged lawmakers at the state Capitol on Thursday to consider new limits on the supplement as a documentary screening raised health concerns (debate continues amid conflicting views on its proper use).  KUTV
  • Intermountain Children’s Health announced its Pediatric Telestroke Network on Thursday to help children in Utah and southern Idaho reach stroke specialists at Primary Children’s Hospital quickly. The initiative, inspired by teen Lucy Merrell’s recovery, will allow families to get rapid diagnosis and treatment from home.  Deseret News
  • Local audiologist Brenda Devereaux of House for Hearing in Orem said a recent study (published in JAMA Neurology) found hearing aids can lower dementia risk by 61% in patients under 70, and she urged those experiencing hearing loss to seek an evaluation to avoid social isolation.  Daily Herald
  • Utah State Hospital announced a 15-year master plan on Thursday to expand mental health services at its east Provo campus & address growing demand. The plan will add a 60-bed forensic unit and repurpose spaces for adult and pediatric care in three phases.  Daily Herald
