- ➤ Authors with Utah ties, including Shannon Hale, are set to release a series of new books in 2026. The upcoming titles include Hale’s 'Christmas in Austenland' due Sept. 26 and others launching (March through Aug). Deseret News
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in Provo fell to an average of $2.64 per gallon, a 4 cent drop over the past week, while GasBuddy noted the national average rose to $2.87 per gallon. The lowest Provo price was $2.44 and the highest was $2.79. KUTV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A storm last Tuesday night boosted the mountain snowpack and dropped at least one inch in Provo, as ski resorts in the Cottonwood Canyons recorded nearly a foot of snow. The Utah Department of Transportation urged drivers to slow down (more storms are needed to ease the winter drought). Daily Herald

- ➤ The Provo Planning Commission recommended rezoning an East Bay property at 1507 S. and 180 East to build a 66,000 sqft data center with conditions following a Feb. 11 meeting. City Council will vote on the plan soon despite some community concerns. Daily Herald
- ➤ Utah lawmakers advanced HB87 (Biscuit’s Bill) on Tuesday with a 3-2 committee vote, which would let judges review custody for dogs retrieved in abuse cases to ease shelter overcrowding and save taxpayer money, and the measure now heads to the Senate floor. Daily Herald

- ➤ UVU filed a motion in Utah County court asking a judge to block the WAC's ban because not allowing its teams in postseason tournaments starting Feb. 27 would harm student-athletes. The action awaits an emergency hearing scheduled before Feb. 23 (court documents). Deseret News
- ➤ A recent poll shows nearly three-quarters of Utahns plan to watch the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics before Sunday’s Closing Ceremonies—44% have already tuned in and Salt Lake City ranks as a top market for NBC coverage—reflecting strong local pride in its Olympic legacy from 2002 and the upcoming 2034 Games.
