BUSINESS NEWS

  • Breeze Airways launched a new route from Provo to Burbank on Thursday at Provo Airport. Flights run four times a week until March 15 when service becomes daily — offering a convenient option for travelers to northern Los Angeles and Simi Valley.  Daily Herald

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new study from the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute released Wednesday found that the University of Utah drives the state’s economy and culture by employing over 44,000 and supporting nearly 100,000 jobs. It details millions spent on construction, research and healthcare to boost community growth.  Deseret News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alpine School District bus driver Matt Burch has collected evidence from near-miss incidents and is now campaigning for tougher penalties to keep children safe. He keeps a notebook of violations (documenting nine years of events) to support his push for stricter bus stop laws.  KUTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Rep. Jill Koford proposed HB 477 to cut local limits on accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in an effort to tackle Utah's housing shortage. City officials will review the proposal as local governments debate details in the coming sessions.  KUTV
  • Immigration attorney Jonathan Bachison said the Kohistani brothers from Afghanistan face lower odds for asylum as a third-party country policy makes their case more difficult. He explained Utah’s immigration courts are crowded (50,000 cases for two judges) though plans to add a new judge offer cautious hope.  FOX 13

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Valley City native Khyiris Tonga — a former BYU Cougar now with the Patriots — is the only native Utahn set to play in Super Bowl LX on Sunday, with his family in San Francisco supporting him as he focuses on the big game.  KUTV
  • BYU football added eight returned missionaries and multiple transfers and high school signings, including Cal transfer linebacker Cade Uluave (a boost for their defense) as new coaching hires solidify the roster ahead of spring practices on Feb. 27 in Provo.  Deseret News
  • Utah will be represented by 81 athletes at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, with 14 native competitors from Park City, Salt Lake City, and Herriman joining others from local winter sports programs. The roster highlights Utah’s strong development in winter sports.  Daily Herald
  • BYU athletic director Brian Santiago denounced offensive chants targeting Mormons at Wednesday’s Oklahoma State game+ he said Big 12 officials will address the repeated behavior after receiving an apology from OSU while coach Kevin Young expressed concern for his young children.  KUTV
