COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Provo received a gold-level bicycle friendly community award from the League of American Bicyclists on Thursday, Jan. 29 — recognizing $21 million spent on bike lanes and $46 million in planned improvements— as city and partners boost cycling safety and connectivity.  Daily Herald

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An airplane made an emergency landing on eastbound US-6 on Friday afternoon; Utah Highway Patrol (Spokesperson Takesha Durrant) said both people onboard were safe with no injuries or damage, and the right shoulder was briefly blocked.  KUTV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Slackwater Pizzeria was ranked No. 9 on Yelp’s Top 100 U.S. Restaurants 2026 for its welcoming atmosphere and food made from scratch - it started in Ogden and now serves many Provo locals, with co-owner Blake Hirschi thanking the community for their support.  Deseret News

CRIME NEWS

  • Four children returned with their father after police finished investigating their mother's custodial interference when officials released their passports from a state-run home in Croatia — nearly two weeks after international legal efforts began.  KUTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sen. Brady Brammer proposed a resolution for UVU to study the feasibility of a law school offering evening and weekend classes; the Senate Education Committee recommended the measure on Thursday, and the study will assess facility upgrades plus faculty requirements for accreditation.  Deseret News
  • Utah's higher education leaders are advancing the three-year Strategic Reinvestment plan that shifts 10% of each college’s budget toward high-value programs. In June, all eight institutions will report revisions as state officials assess success and explore improvements — showing the plan's statewide impact.  Deseret News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State governors met in Washington D.C. on Friday with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to discuss unified Colorado River cuts, while Utah ranchers voiced concerns about impacts on agriculture + water rights. A final agreement is due by Feb. 14.  FOX 13
  • An audit finds that Utah caseworkers missed key deadlines for safety reviews in thousands of cases, with Orem, Brigham City, and Logan showing the highest delays. DCFS officials say they will boost oversight + adjust procedures to protect at-risk children.  KUTV

  • Lindsey Vonn, a key member on the Utah Winter Games committee, suffered a left knee injury in a downhill race in Europe and is consulting doctors as she recovers. She remains committed to leading the Athletes Families Initiative for the 2034 Games in Utah.  Deseret News
