  • Dixie Grimmett (89) and Penny Spresser (86) have long attended BYU games with help from usher Tim Osborn at the Marriott Center; they cheered as BYU beat Utah on Saturday, Jan. 24.  Deseret News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Utah Film Commission celebrated a milestone year for the local film industry with 36 productions in 14 counties generating more than $136M in spending, even as Sundance plans its move to Boulder in 2027. More projects—including ABC’s The Bachelorette and a new Western—will join upcoming productions statewide.  Deseret News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Filmmaker Abby Ellis premiered her documentary The Lake at Sundance Film Festival in Park City on Jan. 22, showing the Great Salt Lake’s decline; Gov. Spencer Cox vowed to restore the lake to full size by 2034 with upcoming state and private investments.  Deseret News

  • Team USA will send 232 athletes to Milan-Cortina starting Feb. 6, and 81 have strong ties to Utah — including 17 with hometown connections. The announcement shows Utah’s growing role in the training of winter sports talent.  Deseret News
